All the semis are moving on the BELIEF that the climate for chips MAY get better. I haven't played them long or short because I don't follow the industry closely. Personally, I would wait for now. But stocks like NVLS and VLSI are already up close to 50% off their lows.

Caveat emptor.

For a trading play, watch CMP, a beaten down little health care stock with a small float and lots of action the past few days. I think it's moving on a contract rumor.

08:52 ET Chip Equipment Makers Cut: Morgan Stanley Dean Witter believes group has gotten ahead of itself, given still weak fundamentals. Firm downgrades SVGI, LRCX, KLAC, DPMI and ASMLF from "outperform" to "neutral." Separately, Needham & Co cuts AMD from "strong buy" to "buy."
