Actually, from my understanding that is not necessarily the case. There was an example of a Aluminum smelter in New Zealand that wound up having several of their melting pots destroyed because one embedded system that monitored emissions at the top of the stack was unable to handle a leap-year function.

It cost that company many weeks and close to a million dollars in repairs.

There has been a push on Capital Hill to actually lessen emission standards/regulations in lieu of Y2K vulnerabilities from emission control/monitoring equipment.

We'll have to see what happens.
