Paul, I'm afraid I don't understand your question. Let me see if I can ask a few back and get pointed in the right direction:

1. Are you asking how does a financial planner account for a client's private assets when allocating his portfolio of publicly traded issues?

2. Are you asking how a portfolio manager of a publicly traded portfolio, a mutual fund, CEF or hedge fund, for example, decides how much of his portfolio will be allocated to privately held assets?

3. Are you asking just about privately held assets or are you also asking about restricted securities, i.e., unregistered convertible issues from a publicly traded co.?

4. Are you asking how to value a stock, like Berkshire Hathaway, that has a number of closely held, non-public issues in its portfolio?
