Overview The NC316 family of high-density, multi-media, multi-protocol network converters, provides a comprehensive central cabling and connectivity solution. NBase, with it's world class optical foundry, integrates cutting edge technologies such as signal multiplexing and link regeneration along with existing technologies (FDDI and 10Base-FL), into the complete wiring center solution, the NC316 family. NC316BU-4 Four Slots Chassis Description The NC316 family members include three chassis: The NC316BU-16, a 16 slot chassis; the NC316BU-4, a four slot chassis and the NC316BU-1, a single slot chassis. All three are capable of hosting fiber optic converters,Signal multiplexers, link regenerator and Ethernet switches. The NC 316 modules allow easy and flexible conversion between a wide variety of media and technologies: unshielded twisted pair (UTP) to fiber optic, multimode to singlemode interface and Gigabit Ethernet long wave to short wave (1000Base-SX to 1000Base-LX). Distances of up to 110 kilometers (depending on fiber quality) can be attained using NBase's own 1310nm and 1550nm lasers along with extremely sensitive photodiodes. The NC316 family also features optical repeater modules that regenerate laser signals, thus extending network distance even further. Multimode to singlemode conversion modules for Fast Ethernet as well as for FDDI and ATM give the NC316 maximum design flexibility. NBase's unique technology multiplexes the transmit (TX) and receive (RX)lines onto a single fiber. This splitter/combiner technology utilizes passive optic multiplexing that adds only minimal attenuation, thus creating the ideal solution for long distance connections. This fiber optic multiplexing technology is integrated in an entire range of modules, fitting a wide scope of environments and technologies. The capacity of existing fiber optic base can double instantly, by integrating these splitter/combiner modules. The NC316 family is engineered to smoothly integrate legacy network topologies with the latest cutting-edge technologies. For maximum flexibility, a four port 10/100Base-TX Ethernet switching module provides an affordable connectivity solution for existing Ethernet/Fast Ethernet networks. In-band and out-of-band, SNMP based management, is provided by the EM316NM management module. This single management module is capable of managing two 16 slot chassis or up to 31 single slot chassis. Robust design in the NC316-16 features an optional redundant power supply and redundant fans to ensure virtually zero downtime due to power loss. An optional redundant SNMP management module ensures identification and status of the NC316 chassis and modules, as well as real-time diagnostics and rapid fault isolation. Designed to be the central conversion solution for the most diverse, demanding networks, the NC316 family brings new versatility to enterprise, MANs and Carriers.
