This new book on Voisey Bay entitled "THE BIG SCORE" had a couple of excerpts taking up the whole page of the Evening Telegram in Newfoundland yesterday and again today. One piece I thought Donner followers might be interested in. It starts "Later that day, Nov. 3, Diamond Fields issued a seven-sentence press release. "A potentially significant occurrence of base metal mineralization containing nickel, copper, and colbalt has been discovered by the company in Labrador..." ...That first announcement made no mention of Voisey's Bay or the remarkable pentlandite nuggets or the massive sulphides visible in the drill core. "Further information,"the text intoned, "will be released when appropriate". The appropriate day arrived two weeks later. On November 17 Diamond Fields issued a four-page press release announcing the assays on the Voisey's Bay core samples. The tests from drill hole No. 2 showed 2.23 per cent nickel, 1.47 per cent copper and 0.123 per cent colbalt. Quoting Watts Griffis and McOuat's technical study of the core, Diamond Fields described the core body as "a major nickel, copper and cobalt discovery. The day of the announcement, Diamond Fields' stock price nearly doubled to close at $8/share on the VSE, up from $4.65 the day before..."
