Why would the Fed lower the funds rate to 2% unless they know how severe the problem is going to be? I don't get it. The market says that Y2K is no big deal yet some analysts are predicting this?

Our markets have lulled themselves into a false sense of security regarding Y2K because our nation's leaders have deliberately perpetuated this notion in order to prevent a panic. What they have effectively done is set the stage for a much greater panic by the marketplace once the truth becomes undeniable by failures that could begin near year end....

Unbelievable.

Dear Airborn: Well, if fed funds rate lowered for reason you give it might spell a new life for ALYD. What bothers me though is isnt the Fed's main purpose to protect the $$? What in their charter gives them the right to do this? JDN
