Whoa! Who's talking about encoded? Although, given the long prepubescence of human young, there may be a biological tilt for the human female to seek a mate that will stick around for a while. I don't think that religion does more than add even more force to the impetus.

Before you throw more mud on "romantic love," please define. Hearts and flowers? I agree that to expect the mindlessness of being "in love" to last is ridiculous. But love, defined as holding someone else as important as oneself doesn't strike me as ridiculous.

You really are stuck on this idea of a meal ticket! Who took you for a ride? (Personal note: I supported a husband through an extire Ph.D. program--including maintaining two residences for much of it--and got nothing when he "suddenly" realized that "It was never right." So who was the meal ticket? It is not only women who pull this kind of behavior!)
