nihil,>>I ask you to spend a couple of hours reading the newspapers, television channels, and data bases available free over the internet.<< spent more than an hour or two:) yourself? >>Use streaming audio and video, preferably with both a fast and a slow mpu and with and without a video board.<< I use an Aptiva P133 with cable modem and a SE7 with POTS modem. I much prefer the P133 as much of my time is internet based. As much as I love the SE7 I wouldn't recommend it over a cable modem and a slower cpu! I'll lend out the SE7 soon. >> Remember that more and more universities are adopting web-based programs -- soon to be curricula<< Good! You're right on the money about more web based curricula, but it will be done with bandwidth not cpu strength. @Home is leading the way in this field. Please tell us more about what schooling should look like in the future. The old memorize from books isn't going to cut it in the year 2000 and beyond. >> I am convinced that education at all levels will become web-based because it is so damned cheap.<< I hear ya! Also because it is much timelier. >>Remember that industry is hungry for people with professional qualifications, many of which can be earned over the web very cheaply. << Bingo. >>As cheap band-width increases, big monitors become cheaper, and mpu's approach the GHz range, ask yourself if you would willingly give up any of these things for a Palm Pilot imbedded in a Q-phone?<< I would certainly give it up if I had the Megabandwidth! Pocket size coupled with wireless Megaband is very attractive to me although this may not be the exact product for me. >> Its a nice extra, but most students and business people will insist on the real thing, especially if they have to pay for it themselves.<< Schools will go to a lean model very soon. Part of this is to keep the smut off the kids screens. >>Why pays someone $40,000 to $100,000 a year and try to save a few thousand by blinding him and restricting his bandwidth.<< There's that word again. Bandwidth. How about restricting his "content"? >>I have to spend several hours a day on the PC.<< Only several hours a day? Man I envy you! >>As more and more people around the world find themselves, or can get themselves, into my position, the market for top-line PC's will burgeon.<< Unfortunately, billions of people around the world will never approach our income level. Their annual gross income is pocket change for us. They might buy Dellicious, but then again maybe not. stak
