You neglected to mention that the PC is a general purpose computer.
Instead you are treating like it is an information appliance.

As to Gerstner's statement, it is at best an attempt to sell big mainframe servers. This type of argument appeals to the MIS manager who wishes to establish hegemony over all computers in a company.

There is a need for servers as everyone knows but they do not replace the PC. X-terminals did not replace PC's either and they were a category of your information appliance group.

Network Computers are the latest example of the failure of your thesis.

That may be so. Remember 15 yrs ago these same guys said there was no future in PCs.
