Sorry trey, didn't mean to be so sarcastic. Presumably the chips passed muster and were then placed on a module. At some point the module failed a test. If the module had failed on receipt by Dell, then Dell would have returned it to MU. My guess is that the module probably passed muster and was placed in a computer, and it was later returned under warranty for replacement. I doubt that it would have been used as a keychain if it still worked, though. One small static shock and ....
