JLA, to depart for the moment from our normal level of discourse, I thing the guv is a non-starter nationally regardless of his personal life. Tax hell state, not something that Republican rivals are likely to miss or go lightly on. As I said, the guv is a good politician, in the Richard Daley style, he makes sure he gets credit for everything possible and has put through a government reorganization to cement his power. He'll win in a landslide on Tuesday, the opposition has token money against a $6million war chest. His big national issue is welfare reform, but the problem is, it hasn't been cheap.

On personal matters, divorce would be problematic for him. He's Catholic, and the traditional Catholic annulment solution isn't available, as his wife is an ex-nun. Patch things up? I don't think that would matter much at this point, given the length of time involved here.
