OT RE: Texas courts

Thanks for the interesting posts on the Texas judges. I was aware of some of the problems because my uncle was a judge in Texas many years ago, and I had also followed the unhappy experiences of Texaco (a Pennsylvania Corporation) in being sued by Pennzoil (a Texas Corporation) over the Getty Oil acquisition. I remember at the time that Pennzoil chief attorney, (whose name escapes me at the moment, but I believe it was Lebanese or other Arab), was a major contributor to the judges involved in the case. Texaco was so sure that it would win that it did not rebut to Pennzoil's damage claims, and the trial court awarded many billions of dollars in damages (accepting without challenge plaintiff's claims). On the appeal to the the Supreme Court of Texas,Texaco was required to post a number of billions in an appeal bond (which it couldn't), and the case was compromised for several billions (and Texaco went into Chapter 11). I don't suppose Texaco was actually discriminated against in fact, but the whole think appeared to me to be extremely unfair "hometown" justice with possible political involvement. Texaco is much to blame for not transferring the case to Federal Court. I don't know if the appeal bond would have been required (substantive or procedural?).
Oh, by the way, you have fessed up to a legal background, but you don't claim a law school on your profile. I wouldn't have said rude things about Texas judges (even though my uncle was a real doozer) had I known.
