"These rivals say State Street's patent is simply a clever marketing
gimmick."

Clever? ROFL

To patent something you must reveal the intrinsic operation. Why on earth would you want to do that if it worked? Why would you need to?

Actually, having been around this virtual place for over two decades, I am probably seen as an anarchist now. ARPAnet, and the Internetworking Protocol was developed to pass information between collaborators on the early systems projects. The 'internet' grew from that for the 'free and unencumbered exchange of information'.

One can sell a service, or license the right to use information collected at some expense, or buy someone's picks - essentially pay for their labor. But education, online at least, should be free. And the reason is simple. It only needs to be created once.
