"In the Net Economy, companies are searching for ways to leverage the Internet to enhance business processes and find competitive advantage," said Maneesh Dhir, vice president and general manager of application platform and managed content division at Netscape. "These new Netscape products help companies act as enterprise service providers by leveraging PeopleSoft systems to deliver a whole new set of services such as customer self-service."
Netscape Application Server for PeopleSoft and Netscape PerLDAP for PeopleSoft round-out Netscape's growing enterprise software portfolio for integrating with enterprise systems. Netscape Application Server for PeopleSoft extends the Netscape Application Server family which includes Netscape Application Server for R/3(TM); Netscape solutions for integrating with BEA Tuxedo and IBM CICS, IMS and MQSeries; Netscape(R) Extension Builder for custom extensions; and a range of Netscape Extensions available from leading software vendors. Netscape PerLDAP for PeopleSoft extends the meta-directory capabilities of Netscape Directory Server which synchronizes corporate directory data from disparate enterprise systems such as the Microsoft Domain Directory, Novell Directory Services, X.500 directories, Lotus Domino, Visual Basic and Palm Computing devices.
"These new Netscape products are about much more than just providing Web-enabled human resources or business self-service applications," said Bill McGraw, managing partner for eCommerce at Sierra Systems, a Netscape Global Systems Integrator and one of PeopleSoft's premier implementation partners. "Netscape Application Server for PeopleSoft gives our enterprise customers a highly-scalable and reliable solution for exposing internal business processes to the Web and deploying Internet commerce solutions on top of PeopleSoft applications."
To help companies develop and deploy Internet applications that access PeopleSoft systems, Netscape Application Server for PeopleSoft provides both high-performance server software and easy to use tools. The product includes the proven scalability and reliability of Netscape Application Server high-performance server software for serving applications to thousands of simultaneous Internet clients with rapid response times and 7-by-24 availability. Netscape Application Server's caching and connection pooling technology enables these applications to rapidly access and return data from PeopleSoft systems through a high-performance Netscape Extension. Netscape Application Server for PeopleSoft also comes with a set of tools that allows companies to build new business processes in Java(TM) that integrate with PeopleSoft systems via the PeopleSoft Message Agent Application Programming Interface.
To simplify management of PeopleSoft-based Internet applications, Netscape Application Server for PeopleSoft includes Netscape Directory Server high-performance management and security software that simplifies the management of corporate data across the enterprise and controls roles-based access to users logging into PeopleSoft-based Internet applications. Netscape Application Server for PeopleSoft also includes the new Netscape PerLDAP for PeopleSoft product to automate the extraction of directory data from PeopleSoft via the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). Netscape PerLDAP for PeopleSoft further enhances Netscape's meta-directory offerings by automatically populating PeopleSoft data into Netscape Directory Server where it is widely available to other directory-enabled applications. Netscape's service-ready infrastructure is ideal for Enterprise Service Providers (ESPs) competing in the Net Economy where high performance, scalability, 24x7 reliability and strong security features that extend outside the enterprise are critical for success. Netscape Application Server is one of the industry's fastest, most-scalable and reliable Internet application servers for deploying business-critical applications on the Internet and Extranets. Using pre-built or custom extensions, customers can integrate applications deployed on Netscape Application Server with existing enterprise infrastructure.
