but if they're losing share, stuffing the channel and using financial engineering, now would be a great time to short!

based on your comments paulie, aren't you expecting a disasterous quarter? won't it be obvious?

sorry, paulie, you can try to have it both ways, but you can't.

Paulie,
I'll acknowledge the following: At some point, you'll be right. It will be a good time to short TLC. That may be in the 50's, or 60's. But, Paulie, you've been trumpeting the short call since the teens. Now you're backing off. Tell you what. Cover your short. As Captain von Trapp told Rolf in The Sound of Music, "You don't want to be one of them. Come with us!" The Hills are alive, Paulie, with The Sound of Covering.

<more to the point is what interest does alex brown have to spin such a skewed report?>

Even more to the point is what interest does Paul Richard have to put such negative spin on a blossoming industry success story?? Large investment losses?? Disgruntled former employee?? Your obvious bitterness can not be concealed.

Remember it's what Prichards isn't saying that counts <ggg>.

immediate short squeeze since oct 15 is now ended.

it appears fear is setting in that the whisper number will not be met. (most of all the large orders sold today were on the downtick)

nov3/98 fleckenstein:
Tough talk from SEC...
However, the most important thing in the
overnight news was that the SEC announced measures to stem what it called
"widespread manipulation of financial reports." I would add parenthetically
that it is only the mass speculation in the financial markets that allows this
to occur in the aggregate.
<p>
If investors (although I shudder to describe today's participants that way)
weren't in such a speculative frame of mind, they would see through these
corporate shenanigans, and these corporations would be penalized. This
definitely is a step in the right direction. Quite frankly, ever since the two
major fraud companies, Cendant and Sunbeam , blew up, the SEC has
been embarrassed and has decided to take matters into their own hands. Good for
them!

afterall, TLC isn't really in the software publishing business, it's in the business of acquisitions & takeovers in the field of software publishing. all the "onetime" acquisition charges have become standard operasting expenses since 1994...and TLC admits it will have to continue to acquire companies to grow...
