If you are trying to track down network problems, I've found above.net's list of remotely accessibly traceroutes useful. Also, the traceroute located at (http://www.above.net/cgi-bin/trace ) will tell you how many packets were dropped out of 10.

By the way since this is a financial discussion site, Above.net recently filed for an IPO. Their business is co-location, they have buildings (one in San Jose and, I think, one near Washington DC) full of other companies servers, networking equipment, backup power etc. They have many peering arrangements and the best connectivity I've seen. Try running traceroute on "www.above.net" or "w3health.com" (a site hosted at above.net) and compare the number of hops.
