Of course they are - but only to the extent of there own forecasts for
the year, whereby they attempt (the smart ones at least) to lock in
a minimum profit should the yen strengthen too much. However, a 20 yen move in 2 days can not be anticipated nor hedged against. Sony has lowered its profit outlook by over 20% since the violent move. Ditto Hitachi & Toshiba. The carmakers are soon to follow with similar warnings, as there vehicles will now cost an American a bit more than
before. The winners are U.S. carmarkers, U.S> chipmakers and U.S. Steel producers (the latter of which whom might have someting to do with the yen rally).
