Informix and Compaq Solution Delivers Exceptional TPC-D 300GB Benchmark Performance

Business Wire - November 02, 1998 08:29

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 2, 1998-- Combined Technologies Demonstrate Leadership Performance for Data Warehousing
Solutions for Merchant Databases

Informix Corp. (Nasdaq:IFMX), the technology leader in enterprise database-powered solutions, today announced outstanding results for a 300 gigabyte
TPC-D benchmark on a Compaq AlphaServer.

The results reinforce Informix's leadership position in the high-performance data warehousing market and clearly demonstrate how the Informix(R)-Compaq
solution can benefit customers with improved business management. Now, customers can quickly process crucial information across the enterprise, while
cost-effectively managing the scalability of the data warehouses as their business grows.

The Informix-Compaq TPC-D benchmark delivered extraordinary results of 8,273 QppD and 3,488 QthD at the exceptionally cost-effective rate of
$999/QphD for 300GB. The results of this benchmark demonstrate the cost effectiveness of clustered systems in high-end data warehousing solutions.

The benchmark system combined the industry's best technologies: Informix Dynamic Server(tm) with Advanced Decision Support Option(tm) and Extended
Parallel Option(tm), and the Compaq AlphaServer GS140 with the Digital UNIX operating system and TruCluster software with Memory Channel II and
StorageWorks.

"These performance results are only the latest in a series of benchmarks that demonstrate Informix's strong commitment to providing users with best-of-breed
database solutions integrated with Compaq's leading Alpha technology," said Diane Fraiman, vice president of Informix corporate marketing.

"Informix's integrated solutions provide businesses of all sizes with improved database management, thereby significantly reducing overall cost of ownership."

From the Compaq side, Jesse Lipcon, vice president and general manager of Compaq's high performance server division said, "The results of the TPC-D
benchmark clearly demonstrate the performance superiority and exceptional cost effectiveness of the Compaq and Informix solution for business intelligence
applications.

"These extraordinary performance results mean customers can access, analyze, and report on critical business information across the enterprise much faster, in
more detail, and from larger data sets. This allows customers to dramatically improve the overall operation and profitability of their business and helps them
manage their tight budgets."

About the TPC and the TPC-D Benchmark

The Transaction Processing Performance Council is an independent organization formed by member companies across the computer industry. The TPC-D
benchmark examines system performance in a decision support workload.

It differs from OLTP benchmarks in testing system performance in workloads with transactions involving a large amount of data and queries of greater
complexity. For more information about TPC benchmarks and results, please refer to the Transaction Processing Performance Council Web site at
