Tip, I think we agree on a lot of this stuff. I believe that parental non-involvement, or even non-existence, in many cases, is the biggest problem and is more than just a school problem. Let me give an example. Last night at the race track, some guy brought a little girl with him. She was about 4 and cute as a bug. He walked off and left her alone in her seat for half an hour. There was nobody near her, so I know he didn't have a friend looking after her. After a while she started acting up a bit and an usher came and tracked down the father, who was ticked off at being bothered.

Now, this is the same guy who is going to be screaming bloody murder if she ever gets molested, or worse.

With the schools, it is nice to have choice, but I think society has a few requirements, like being able to read and write, etc. I think more local control is good if the locals are halfway responsible.

I totally agree that the current system already punishes those in smaller or poorer areas. That sucks. Here in Texas we had a plan called Robin Hood, but the rich who were robbed, not surprisingly, screamed bloody murder. They didn't like the real Robin Hood, either. <G>

Here's a start. If you teach your family how to "read" people then they might have a fighting chance. Of course, in this politically correct society, being right might not be smart. :<(
