Cyberian Outpost (COOL) jumped 23% today on news of a deal with ISN. This brings another thought to mind: does anyone know which companies are featured as computer retailers on AOL? Is there one exclusive spot? AOL has had a history of taking equity stakes in content companies as part of their exclusive deal for presence on AOL, but they've been burned frequently by those already-inflated stocks falling after the deal was made (ie: Sportsline USA (SPLN)). With the stock of computer retailers like EGGS (and until today, COOL) already so out of favor, I wonder if AOL would consider making or extending deals with them right now in exchange for large equity stakes? The timing would be right because unlike the stocks that have burned AOL in the past, these stocks are still way way off their highs and would be likely to rocket higher in response to such a deal, thus making it an even better deal for AOL. If a deal with ISN can push Cyberian up 23% in one day, what would a deal between EGGS and AOL do?!? This is pure speculation, however. I don't use AOL and have no idea what the arrangements are between AOL and retailers such as EGGS.
