Lws: Yup, hard to explain the large volume, although one needs to subtract ~40% of that volume due to Nasdaq double counting. So that brings the volume down some. Then to get a clearer understanding of its nature one needs to look at the number of total transactions, and the relative size of each. This MAY allow you to determine if the volume is being driven by "retail" demand or "wholesale" demand. One free site that's good for this, but you do have to register, is:

freerealtime.com

But in the end I will admit trying to deduce the reason is tantamount to trying to read tea leaves. Basically it's a guess, albeit an educated one. One thing which concerns me is the exuberance some folks may have had when VLNC began its recent run. Exuberance that would have lead to MARGINING additional holdings. This is a trap sprung waaaay too often in VLNC's past. I highly advise everyone NOT to do this until we've corporate confirmation of all the rumors and smoke currently permeating the VLNC air. You can only get yerself into trouble, and allow MM's to pick up more cheapie shares by driving the bid down to the appropriate levels, by prematurely executing this strategy.

Just my opinion of course.
