Mad2, I liked this post of yours. Great response to Joe. I keep playing the conference call, over and over in my head. Combined with what I saw and heard at PRST (much of the same stuff as the call) it seems that PRST may have really turned an important corner with the new CEO Hallman. He talked about the new partners (A,B,C,D on his exploding star chart with the other partners) and the direction that PRST was headed. His goal of making PRST into a first class thin film plate producer and to make the printing press a computer peripheral may very well be coming true. These new partners must have been a direct result of the overwhelming digital display put on at IPEX by Scitex and Heidelberg. I am very comfortable with the idea of Mr. Hallman sitting across the conference table from any of these partners. I am also sure that these partners, given his well earned and established reputation, are comfortable as well. I have found the 25th patent in 24 months. Notice the short time frame from application to issue. Interesting at worst. United States Patent 5,829,353 Ellis Nov. 3, 1998 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Method of modulating lithographic affinity and printing members made thereby Abstract The lithographic affinity characteristics of a material, such as a polymer, are affected--and thereby selectively modulated--through implantation of one or more metallic materials, typically in the form of ions and/or atoms (or molecules). The desired characteristics are achieved by bulk chemical modification of the material rather than by texturing or deposition of a new surface layer. In the case of a polymer system, for example, the metal impregnates the matrix, penetrating to an observable depth without substantial surface accumulation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Inventors: Ellis; Ernest W. (Harvard, MA). Assignee: Presstek, Inc. (Hudson, NH). Appl. No.: 877,942 Filed: Jun. 18, 1997
