Globe says firm reignites investor interest

The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998 edition that a
series of recent developments has reignited investor interest in Ballard
Power Systems. The Globe's Peter Kennedy writes that Ballard's stock is
clearly back in vogue with investors, rising $5.60 to $48.50 yesterday on
the TSE. That's up from $25.25 at the end of August. One analyst said he
was baffled by the stock's sudden advance. While there weren't any specific
developments yesterday, other company watchers pegged the stock's move to a
series of developments that have combined to put Ballard back in the
spotlight. Last week, for example, Ballard announced the signing of a
multiyear supply agreement with British precious metals dealer Johnson
Matthey. Ballard also made news last week after company officials and local
politicians gathered in Vancouver to formally launch the two year test
phase of Ballard's fuel cells in three British Columbia Transit buses. A
Ballard executive's appearance on a weekend television show and a
favourable article in the Economist also helped drive the stock up, says
the Globe.
