John,
Very asute post. Dell has had the luxury or benefiting from CPQ, IBM and HPs front line support of AMD. When it becomes apparent that being "all Intel" is hurting them they can get in line. Will be interesting to see what happens when Gateway goes with AMD.

John - Re: "DELL will make the right choice and take advantage of what's available and do 'what the customer wants'."

Judging by DELL's financial performance AND their service/reliability awards, DELL IS DOING WHAT THEIR CUSTOMERS WANT.

And DELL customers seem to love INTEL INSIDE.

John, re: Dell/Intel

One of the priorities in a mail order business is that the consumer must have very strong confidence in quality and predictability of the product that they buy. Dell sells confidence when it sells Intel, thus their decision to stay with the brand.
