Les, unless I am missing something here you and I have total agreement. <<..attacks in the south by Saddam's army in the past two weeks.>> <<..Saddam's forces attacked villages..>> <<..Women, children, and the elderly in the area were forced to flee their villages while the young men were arrested>> <<Iraqi forces were targeting national opposition members and deserters from the army who found refuge in these rural areas aided by local tribes.>> <<The news releases indicated that the increased resistance came in response to the regime's policies which included mandatory drafting of young men, continued harassment of tribes, arbitrary arrests and killings, and corruption.>> The villagers of the Middle East have more reason to hate Saddam Hussein than anyone and always have had. So, I don't buy the argument that if we murder enough of them that they will blame it all on Saddam. The villagers are not our enemies (yet). The policies of the US and the resources of the US are directly causing the death of innocent children, women, and elderly residents of these villages by the millions, and it is continuing. How much longer? There are so many ways we could use these same US resources to fund the direct overthrow of Saddam Hussein. They are very traditional and effective. Why this villager genocide by the US? In Muslim communities of the surrounding countries the common explanation is becoming that Saddam and the US are secretly allied. Maybe you see that as a joke. I don't take it too seriously. The point is they are attaching the evil committed to innocent villagers to both Saddam Hussein and the US; rightfully so. How many more innocent babies Les?
