barnesandnoble.com Announces Expansion With Focused Music and Video
Collections

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 1998--

Bookseller Signs Exclusive Deal with Content-Rich

All-Music Guide/All-Movie Guide

barnesandnoble.com announced today that it will further expand its product
offerings to include focused collections of music and video in the first
quarter of 1999. The company also revealed it signed an exclusive agreement
with the All-Music Guide/All-Movie Guide, the world's most comprehensive
entertainment databases. Under the agreement, barnesandnoble.com will be the
only online bookseller with the right to use the data.

"The All-Music Guide and All-Movie Guide are quite simply the best music
and video databases available today," said Steve Riggio, Chief Executive
Officer, barnesandnoble.com. "They are content rich and their links will
provide enormous cross-merchandising opportunities with our book database.
While our site will offer virtually every available cd, our merchandising will
be focused on classical, opera, jazz and show tunes. That approach has been
very successful in our retail stores - we know what appeals to a book customer
and we intend to create a second-to-none experience for them. We intend to
have the same focused approach to video, emphasizing documentaries, travel,
how-to and tons of hard-to-find foreign films."

"We are confident that barnesandnoble.com will be the leading provider of
music and movies for book lovers who shop on the Internet," says Eric
Weissman, Chief Executive Officer, All-Music Guide/All-Movie Guide. "We are
excited about this opportunity to provide them with the definitive database
for music, movies and related information and look forward to a long and
successful relationship."

In addition to offering an extensive selection of music, including
classical music, the All-Music Guide database is the most comprehensive online
resource of its kind. All-Music Guide is the only music data provider to cover
both current and historical music data for more than 300,000 albums. This data
includes artist biographies, music reviews, album ratings and additional
information such as suggestions on other artists with similar music styles.
Information can be accessed in multiple ways to help the consumer make their
selections.

For old-movie buffs or those interested in current box-office hits, the
All-Movie Guide offers more movie information than any other online source.
All-Movie Guide covers more than 140,000 titles and provides expert synopses,
artist biographies, movie ratings and, listings of casts and characters. The
guide can even give the consumer a list of movies that have similar themes or
plot lines. For example, if you were to search for the plot line "Love Against
All Odds," you would be linked to such films as 1933's "Goodbye Again" and
1997's Oscar-winning "As Good As it Gets."

Amazon.com is to Barnesandnoble.com (the name is too long!)
as Iomega is to Syquest.

Amazon.com is to Borders.com is what gilded age St. Louis turned out to be relative to Chicago.

A lot of money spent too quickly on the wrong things, in order to become the primary commerce hub.

Still, St. Louis didn't turn out that bad.

Nonetheless the first to spend the most money in the most lavish manner possible, was not the one that really made it big.

St. Louis invested too much in waterways, which in light of railroad development in Chicago, turned out to have been quite frivolous and excessive waste of money.

I would suggest that you folks book up on the Gilded Age of Commerce Hub Development before you throw too much money at this oinker.
