Webb,

You can have several Virtual Profiles in QP. Each must have a different name, of course. If you drag your list into one of these, it just adds it to the profile. Be sure to "save" the profile after doing this. But, you don't have to reboot to use it. That's why I created Handy in the first place. I delete and drag back several scans a day. Even a scan that I ran weeks ago can be brought current this way.

Once you drag the first list into your own Handy Profile it's ready to use. The next day, if you just drag that same list into Handy, it will NOT append, but simply add it to the profile, but it will then be current. But, you would then have two lists in the profile. The first one would be out of date (not current). That's why I delete it and drag the list back.

Hope I'm making myself clear. Unfortunately, I'm going to be out of here the rest of the afternoon. But, If I can help further, post. I'll be back later today. Good luck!

Ken

Guess I don't understand the problem with WOW..
If I view any stocks from a virtual profile I get the last date that I have in my QP2 data base. I don't have to do anything....no drag and drops with lists..so you fellows must be doing something that I don't do..but probably should be <G>.
Dick.

A better writer might make this clearer but here it is. First you have a dir called meta setup. Now you can run your filter scan which produces a list (your 400) don't sent it anywhere. Now use it as an input for XXX scan output:
ouput="xxx.lst";
input="my400.lst";
ProcessMS="c:\meta\xxx\",VMS;

xxx.scan

Now when you run the scan it will clear that sub dir and put in new information each time you run it. Wow will read the results.

Now remember under C:\meta\; you can have an all, dir which sents all stocks or indices to it. Think of a tree with the branches off the meta root. I have about 10 sub-directories off Meta. Each produced by a scan, most with a filter input.

Now GET handles data the best way, it will find all metastock or other data files on a drive and make them available. you aren't held to 255 or even 2000 for directory. Equis and their sweetheart deals restrict The good data vendors to 255. but explorer (mswin scan) can go across dirs, so scans are possible there. Wow will read 255 directories in virtual or metastock, but present QP version doesn't change the date, to do so you have to rerun scan each day. The new beta fixes this and brings corrections to metastock files automatically.

It is a simple process. I haven't opened virtual setup since April, if I have all scans go to its dir. I have never seen a reason to save scans from the past, as you seem to want to do by "appending". You want the stocks that meet your scan today not last week. The idea is you buy next day after trigger, you don't wait a week and think it is still viable.

While some try to backtest in qp, I think you should use a MSWIN or WOW type program to do a full system test. So if I am checking for a MACD trigger, I don't care what it was yesterday or 15 days ago.

Yes you can have more profiles, but just use one and tree off it for each scan. I have never understood the problems with virtual and its use. Now you have a main directory with sub directories with one containing all data, others the results of other scans. I think Sean addressed the "append" method before, I just can't figure why anyone wants it.

GET will read QP directly shortly. Other charting programs are getting on board.

now someone else explain what I said.
