Lawrence Kieves Adds to K-tel His Extensive Operational and Executive Managerial Expertise

CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 1998--Philip Kives, chairman and chief executive officer of K-tel
International Inc. (Nasdaq:KTEL - news), Tuesday announced the appointment of Lawrence Kieves as president.

Larry Kieves, age 50, has held positions as CEO and COO of several public companies in the entertainment industry.

''Larry's operational and strategic expertise will be of tremendous value to us at K-tel. We are pleased that he has joined us,
bringing with him years of executive managerial experience in the entertainment industry. Larry will play a key role driving
K-tel's continued prominence in marketing through multiple channels, including our Internet operation, 'K-tel Express,'''

Kieves' experience includes positions as COO of Network Event Theater, a large-screen broadcast-theater company which
became public in 1996; COO of RKO Warner Video, a large chain of video rental outlets in the New York metropolitan area;
COO of L.A. Entertainment, a video, music, and software retailer with more than 100 outlets and CEO of Congress Video
Group, a publicly held licensor, manufacturer and distributor of videocassettes.

In addition, Kieves has also held several public service positions including Commissioner for the Office of Economic
Development of the City of New York, Director of the Office of New York Finance for the U.S. Treasury Department, as
well as staff positions in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

As the new President, Lawrence Kieves replaces David Weiner, who left the company in September 1998 to pursue other
interests. Kieves is a once removed cousin of Philip Kives.
