Yes Don, gold was down, spot gold.
Did you note, that by the EOB again spot was lower and futures were higher? I must conclude(guess) someone is selling spot to be able to buy (back?) futures. Bodes well for higher (far higher?) gold prices?
we can only wait and see...

Kaplan's take on today's action:

On Monday, COMEX gold open interest rose by 2,761 on a day when gold dropped $2.80, which is significantly bearish, indicating that commercials were probably selling even as the price of gold was falling.
