And Reagan had no control over the regulators, right? He couldn't help them out. Texas was indeed the heart of the S&L fiasco. It's not normally known as a liberal state, is it? The Keating Five that you cited, they weren't from Texas, were they? Who were the evil Democrats running interference for the Texas tycoons and S&L bandits?

Wasn't it a change in tax law that reduced overnight the value of real estate that triggered the S&L crisis?
