I noted the same lack of "Great quarter guys" and other atta-boys. I'm not sure why. At least one analyst seemed pretty shocked by the expansion in gross margins -- "Is this sustainable?"-- I think it was JP Morgan.

But generally everyone seemed pretty ho-hum. I cut out at about 3:25, and no one to that point said a thing about earnings absent the charges for Leap. .66 seemed pretty good to me.

Taichi,

They weren't blase. They were both surprised and embarrassed.
The Street consensus for the now upcoming December Q1 is .63 and
here's the company slapping .66 on the tape in Sept.!Furthermore,
this would have been an even bigger quarter had they recognized
$29 million in infrastructure shipments to Russia that they decided not to book, and in addition, general and administrative expenses were
abnormally boosted to the tune of $8 Million by litigation expenses
(ERICY suit) and expenses to perform the Leap share spinoff. (Absent
only the spinoff expenses - earnings would have been boosted another
4 cents to .70.) There will follow from these results an inevitable
raising of the Dec. Q1 and FY'99 analyst estimates.
regards,
John

My take is the same. It seems that everyone is already expect the Q to post blow away number in these difficult time especially what happening in Asia and around the world. Why Qcom is never getting the same treatment like other company? Here they are doing an excellent job and not even one guy says "congrats". I guess if you don't play the kiss as* game like everybody else than you are less likely to get a praise for doing a damn good job I might add. I feel like all the guys that are asking the question are out to get the Q for some reasons. Let hope the stock movement tomorrow will be a slap in the face for them. Let us break the natural home range of 50s for once.
