Good news, Proton launches with PanAmSat-8. All OK so far.

From Florida today:

Update for 12:25 a.m. EST
An International Launch Services Proton rocket was launched carrying the PanAmSat-8 communications satellite today. Liftoff was on time at 12:12 a.m. EST (0512 GMT) from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakstan. Within 10 minutes of launch, the three-stage Proton successfully injected the Block DM upper stage and attached PAS-8 spacecraft into a preliminary parking orbit. The Block DM is slated to perform two firings prior to deploying the spacecraft 6 hours, 40 minutes, 32 seconds into flight.

PAS-8, built by Space Systems/Loral, will be positioned at 166 degrees East longitude to provide advanced video and telecommunications services throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Note: PanAmSat reports a glitch has prevented the video feed of the launch from being uplinked from Baikonur. The feed was to have been broadcast on a number of satellites to viewers around the world.

Note:
Notification of a successful launch will not occur until spacecraft separation, approximately 6 hours and 41 minutes after liftoff or 06:53AM EST. Lets hope all goes OK.
