Hi Scott - The "renting" of JAVA applications and even the recently announced JINI embedded devise royalty model discussed today by SUNW sounds like a very cost effective model for the end user.

Do you know if Novell is pursuing such a model for a future service?

Another application that is being developed in Redwood City (CA) by CellNet is a networked utility meter reading service to be launched next year. The beta tests are now being completed in several major cities in the U.S.. Business and home utilities are monitored by electronic meter devices that utilize embedded software systems that report usage back to "Network Central" (located in Redwood City). Customer activity is monitored and billed by CellNet. I wonder if they use a Novell network to manage the system.

This would be a good "service" business Novell could develop and support. I like those reoccurring revenues that are charged to the utility each month.
