To All: Dell edges out Compaq in business market November 3, 1998 11:30 PM EST New York Times, November 02, 1998 Summary of key facts: Dell Computer Corp finished in the No 1 slot with an 18.9% share of the business computer market in the 3rd quarter 1998, finishing ahead of its rival, Compaq Computer Corp, which had an 18.4% share. Gateway Inc finished at the No 3 position, while IBM was No 4. Dell had been finishing in the No 2 position for years. Compaq is still No 1 in the consumer computer market, with a 15.8% share, vs Dell's 14.1% share in the 3rd quarter.
