KLA-Tencor Announces Corporate Restructuring

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 1998--KLA-Tencor Corporation
(Nasdaq:KLAC - news) announced today a restructuring plan to address the downturn
in the semiconductor industry.

As part of the plan, the company has reduced its global workforce by about 220 people
or 5%.

The company will incur a non-recurring restructuring charge consisting primarily of costs
associated with the consolidation of the company's facilities, a write-down of assets
associated with affected programs, and employee severance and related benefits
associated with the company's reduction in force.

The company expects the restructuring plan and related cost estimates to be completed
by the end of the second fiscal quarter and the charge will result in a net loss for the
second fiscal quarter.

Actual results could differ materially from those anticipated in forward-looking
statements in this release as a result of certain factors, including those set forth in the risk
factors described in the company's SEC filings.

KLA-Tencor Corporation is the world leader in yield management and process control
solutions for semiconductor manufacturing and related industries. The company offers a
broad portfolio of systems for inspection, metrology, and data analysis, as well as yield
management services.

KLA-Tencor is traded on the Nasdaq National Market under the symbol KLAC.

Yes, I might be wrong. That's what makes it interesting.

However, the IC Insights report refers to chip sales, while my comment referred to equipment sales. If chip sales didn't start improving sometime soon, that would push the equipment recovery even further back.
