I'm not dismissing NetWare's architecture and legacy problems.

You might not be dismissing it Bearded One, but I will dismiss it 100%.

Like I said in the previous posting - NW5 and NDS are perfect and crystal clear examples of a company that has shed any shred of legacy architectural issues (i.e. IPX & Bindery).

And you are 100% correct that among all the other problems that are still facing MSFT's dark future in the next 1-2 years, they have have this belief that they can avoid having to address their huge architectural issues (monolitic and non-modular OS, a reliance on NetBios, and Domains). What stockholder need to know is that eventually these legacy issues that are technically plaguing MSFT will come to a head with the release of Windows 2000 (properly named in my opinion because that is likely when the server version will finally show up) and customers will finally realize that MSFT's server technology just wont cut it compared to NetWare 5 & 6, Linux, AIX, Solaris, NDS, and many other best-of-breed solutions.

It will be a very rough couple of years for MSFT and its stock. These technical limitations that MSFT will pay the price for, is in addition to the Y2K issues that I am certain MSFT is thrashing internally to address on ALL their products, delays of their NT5 while all their competitors continue to put out their advanced software, the countless lawsuits that will further keep Gates and company off focus, and the Java/CORBA on-slaught by many of MSFT's industry foes that MSFT has quickly built up because of their past arrogances and treatment.

It wont be a great time and the stock price will prove this out.

Hey Bearded:

Congratulations on the recent run-up in your Novell investment!!! I am assuming that you still have a long position there. Even though we are on opposite sides of the MSFT argument, I always respect people who put their money where their mouth is (unlike some others who just like to spout bs about the death of MSFT, etc.). I have owned NOVL at different times in the past, never quite worked out for me, however I think it is good for the industry if this one time great company recovers...
