I have been burned this year by IR departments and execs who were saying that "the market has over-reacted and everything is fine" while actually they were continuing to sell off shares and then came out with the bad news. That happened on two occasions where I talked to IR and within a couple of days the bad news hit. CBTSY was one of those - they now have about ten lawsuits against the company and management who had sold off about $50 mil of stock. IR said "we can't see any reason why the stock is selling off". After doing what I thought was an above average amount of research into the company and it's markets, I invested on this assessment. It turns out that there was real news (not just the fact that the general market had sold off) to propel the stock downward. Who can you trust if IR says one thing that is out of sink with what is really going on either through being kept ignorant by management or planned deception?
