The EPS numbers from Yardeni seem to conflict with First Call.

I am not sure how much y2k will impact gold prices.

I think that the biggest factor impacting gold will be the decline in the dollar as the need for Europeans to hold Eurodollars diminishes. Other factors include the already announced conversion from Dollars to Euros as reserves by significant countries like China, the growth of Euro denominated debt instruments vs the dollar and finally the unwinding of the yen and gold carry trades. The exact timing is difficult to pin down. In the summer of 97 on this or the Mohan group I predicted the the dollar would begin to decline in the spring of 98 - it looks like I was off by about 4 months.
