I have to disagree with that statement Chief. I was working at CIBC over 3 years ago and they already had a program in place for dealing with Y2K. They were very aware of the problems they were facing with regards to Y2K and were actually leaders in trying to make the rest of Canada aware of the problem. I don't know if the other banks were as "on the ball" as CIBC was, but for some reason I believe that they were. If I am correct CIBC officials were also lobbying the government to take action regarding Y2K (trying to get legislation, etc.) Why would they do something like that? Well, quite simply, as a bank if they are up and running but another bank goes down, and all of the mid-sized and small companies go down.... they are still screwed!
