One real life experience is my fiance is the IT director at a prestigious prep school here
and they are in the process of doubling their campus. They are now CSCO but after she
took this article and a few posts by Mr. Fun to the board they have decided to switch to
either Fore or Xyln, something MUCH more cost effective and most important of all is
the open architecture. She is looking forward to the switch, her CSCO rep is an
arrogant a**h*le.

She is short sighted...and that aritcle, although accurate, was spun. CSCO is becoming like MSFT - the company everyone loves to hate and this is bleeding into the some articles in the press. What Chambers was saying is that since CSCO can offer a network which is easier to manage and support (mainly due to CSCO's ability to deliver an end to end solution), the saving in operational costs far outwiegh the premium in initial outlay. You friend/IT manager is going to learn the hardway ...

Finally, does this even help ASND. You mentioned she would be looking at FORE or XYLN...and this is an enterprise solution,...so I'm not sure any of this is positive for ASND. Oh, and CSCO's products are completely standards based (she is wrong and so is the article). CSCO DOES offer some proprietary extensions which allow their products to provide better service than completly adhering to the standards can offer.... You don't have to use them however.
