I think what's deceptive is the fact that while many manufacturers have been including Zips in fewer models as a standard item, they have continued to sell them as add-ons. Hence, fewer models with standard Zip, but total OEM sales dramatically better.

Apparently, the direct-marketers have found that they do better, profit-wise, to price the box just a bit lower, then sell the Zip as an add-on for $99, including a couple of disks.
