If you remember this >simple rule, you will do well Yeah - I tried for fun to enter a rather small sell order (just experimenting with day trading) towards close but got timed out from a couple of servers which didn't respond. I then managed to get through to orders15 which had worked impeccably earlier in the day, however now I just got a spinning hour glass. Then I tried to place the same order on orders7 (which I also knew worked well earlier), and stared again for a looong time at the hour glass. Result - one "not confirmed" order at 16:00:09, and one open order at 16:00:15. Did Datek die around 15:50 and spring back to life just seconds after close? I tried to open an account with E*Trade today - this morning I got through to the first web form, but after submitting it it just timed out on me. Submitting it again didn't work - "username already taken". So I tried a slightly different one. Same result, and same reply when re-submitting it. Obviously the data managed to get from the form into E*Trade's database but the server didn't come back with any confirmation ;-( Sooo... I tried again this evening and noticed that I could link the account to an existing username. Cool, I tried the one I had used the first time. Worked like a treat! Except for the Javascript which screws up anyone who isn't from the US, and a form which insists that one has to enter a US State - even when one doesn't live in the US (why the *hell* do so many yank sites get *that* one wrong - I have stopped counting the number of times I've been forced to go back on a form to enter a state even though I quite clearly didn't choose "United States" in the list of countries - aaargh!) And, except for the "funds transfer" form where I couldn't just transfer 10,000 bucks from Datek: no, it insisted that I enter a stock, I tried "1 CSCO" and *that* part was fine. Except now I was stuck as I couldn't get around the part where it insisted on my social security number. I HAVEN'T GOT ONE DAMMIT - I'M NOT FROM THE US!!! The latter was specified in two or three places as I clicked my way through the forms - aaargh again!!! So, I sent E*Trade an e-mail, requesting all forms by snail-mail, screw technology... Maybe I should open a thread "how to survive the stress of opening an E*Trade account" ;-) ... One day I might actually *have* an E*Trade account and it will be fun to compare how well *trading* works.
