You're referring to the situation as it stood in August and early September. The Democrats were narrowing the races since then and the Republicans campaigned not to lose by not advancing agendas for the campaigns. The Republicans also are heavily focused in the South where the conservative votes can be had by traditional conservative Democrats. All the Presidential elections since 1976 have been won by governors and vice presidents (1). Jesse Ventura showed that a conservative independent with a moderate social agenda will win handily over the Democrats.

Dipy - Yessir - right away boss. We'll all just let ol' slick and his cronies keep getting away with anything he wants, just like you say, sir. No problem.

We certainly don't need to have anything like honor or character or honesty in our President, now do we? Is that too much to ask?
