Michelle - it doesn't matter if Shumer thought that. A Democrat fundamentally cannot believe in smaller government - to do so would be self destructive and he would find himself without the support of the party.

Socialism and the Democratic party strength comes from constituencies that are led to derive benefits from the public sector or those who manage and/or profit from the delivery of those services.

The odd dichotomy of having socialism roaming freely in our republic is that the economic horsepower of the capitalist system still generates barely enough growth in income for producers while the political horsepower of the left keeps taking more of it away.

I think you're right about the Bush sons, BTW. Our power went out last night and in re-programming all the channels on TV I saw Bush (George) speaking in Spanish in front of a large crowd. I thought it was a translation on a Latino channel and was about to cancel it, but it turns out he's pretty fluent - it wasn't something he was reading.
