Venture Firms See Double-Digit Rise In FY98 Sales, Profit: Survey

TOKYO (Nikkei)-Japanese venture firms expect double-digit growth in revenue and profit for fiscal 1998, according to a survey by Nihon Keizai Shimbun Inc.

In spite of the nation's economic woes and banks' reluctance to lend, the 619 ventures surveyed, which supplied data as of Sept. 1, expect revenue to improve 11.2% this fiscal year and pretax profit to grow by 19.9%. Just over 80% of the firms are planning to go public.

Hit by the ongoing credit contraction, many of the venture firms are considering reviewing their business. Nevertheless, one-third of the respondents say they are having no difficulty raising funds.
