If We're Still Counting Inventory....

I just popped down to the local Fry's to buy one or two Guillemot Maxi Gamer 3D2 cards. I figured there would be plenty, since there were at least 50 there last Wednesday (seven days ago). Today, there was one. And nobody bought it because it was a return with a sticker on the box that says "No Software." So much for the theory that Voodoo2 demand has dried up. Maybe "Voodoo2 demand at $300 has dried up but they are the deal of the year at $139" is more like it.

OT -- What's up with 3D Labs (TDDDF)? I noticed it yesterday but I was busy with other things and have not done my DD on it yet so I let is pass. 20/20 hind sight tells me I shouldn't have <g> It's up 43% on the kind of volume that makes you go hmmm.

The way we are moving, we'd be breaking the 15.5~16.5 barrier pretty soon and I am not sure how to play that yet. Does anyone have any ideas?

I know you don't like the description "long term", but this is where "long term" really counts. As a trader I would dump the stock on any weakness or release of good news as the stock appears to be getting slightly overbought. As a long term shareholder, I see the possibility for 20% of the OEM market next year. The puts the numbers at about $4 EPS and a $40 share price with a 10 P/E.

I can tell you this. I was a long term holder with Iomega way before it was a glimmer in the Fool's eye. The stock went through many gyrations up and down but I cleared a 10 bagger with that one. Many of my friends that traded the stock got nowhere near those returns but they also didn't take the risks. I figured my risk was minimized by my knowledge of the stock. Turned out I was right.

If you truly feel that 3dfx will be one of the primary OEM's in 1999 then I wouldn't waste my time with these daily fluctuations.

Hell, I sure don't know. I sold my "play" TDFX (8 5/8) just after earnings along with about half my other techs. I was expecting a market breather before resuming the rally. What a bad call with hindsight. Can't complain too loudly tho, I still have half my TDFX (13 15/16) which just went in the black today. I plan on holding the remainder through the "year of TDFX" <g>

Sun: Breaking barriers...

My take on the psychology is that because of the huge potential of this company and because of its historical highs, the move up will inspire greed in shareholders which will offset the desire to recoup losses.

So there are psychological factors pulling in both directions. Hopefully the strong fundamentals will tip the scale. And greed does tend to win out more often than not.
