Looks like fiction from start to finish.

I'm amazed that people are willing to credit *any* politician
for balancing the budget. I seem to remember as recently as
1996 Clinton saying it would take at least 10 years.
The Republicans in Congress weren't much better; they said
it would take 7 years.

If you can't reasonably forecast something, how can you
claim credit for causing it to happen?

My God, there is a Clinton defense!!!!!!!!!

You raise an interesting set of opinions, Doug. Some of which I agree with. I believe he is a centrist, leftist and even shows signs of recognizing the values of right-wing constituencies from time to time.

He is an artificial creation of spin-doctor politics; do what you must to keep the opposition off balance. He is not a leader with new and important ideas.

The primary cause of the balanced budget was a series of attempts by Republicans to legislate it - ridiculed and reviled at all times by Democrats as dangerous - followed by an economic growth bubble that vindicates the theory that our present income tax system is seriously flawed.

Republicans wanted to cut the rate of growth in programs, not "all" the programs; Nafta is too early to call as to its success; he and the Democrats fought capital gains tax reductions as if they were tools of the devil; Rubin is a managed-economy threat to anyone who makes more than $50K a year; Greenspan is untouchable and there was never any question about his reappointment; Nato is hardly the powerful entity it used to be - Bosnia has proven that using a military force as policemen and then not letting them act is folly - we'll be there forever and will never punish the guilty.

A good start - Thank you. At last, we have things to discuss!!!

Mr. K.
