I don't know about the Left Coast but in Illinois we used to have to go to the voter registration office and register. We had a non photo ID. I feel we should go back to having a voter registration office in every county with a photo ID being issued. Doesn't matter what party, everybody gets one.

Michelle, I don't agree with you on this. Sure, it shouldn't have to be a drivers license. But some sort of ID should be required.

After all, you generally have to offer some proof of identity to get welfare. Things like a phone bill, rent receipt in your name, an electricity bill.

I'm not in favor of making the process of registering to vote onerous. But I also don't think we should allow illegal aliens to vote. Which is what I think a lot of the sub rosa fight is really about.

I'm not at all anti-immigrant. But I am against our winking at illegal immigration. NYC definitely does it as well. It's part of the built in culture which even Giuliani signs onto.
