Scumbria, remember that it is in the OEM's best interest to not compete upon price, but instead on value-added features.

That is exactly the philosophy which Compaq maintained during the period 1991-1992, when their stock dropped by 75%. When Eckhardt Pfeiffer took over, he switched emphasis to low cost computers. Since that time, CPQ has gone up almost 100X.

This may give you some insight into why Compaq uses CPUs from other vendors.
