Darrin,
How do you feel about a 17 year old boy killing his 14 year old girlfriend as a sacrifice for Halloween. Or how about the cats and dogs that are sacrificed because kids are playing make believe that got real as they got older. Our school had its windows broken for the fun of Halloween. The focus on negative and destruction is the problem with the celebration of this day IMO.

If we could get it out of our system on one day, that would be great, but it is unlikely. The fear of monsters, goblins, and boogeymen is just basically a fear of the unknown. It is the basis of all or our folk stories, myths, and other forms of trying to explain the unknown.

Little kids dressing up on hallowen serves somewhat of the same function. It is an attempt within a safe and fun environment that little children can address some aspects of their fears. Adding to those fears by saying that they are unwillingly and unknowingly paying homage to the Devil is harmful and serves no purpose, IMO.
